On a pale horse

some Arya Stark fanart for ya.
i wanted to be a bit bolder and rougher with my painting style. something a lot of digital artists do is only use soft edge brushes and the result is a bloby mess. it takes some guts to take a nice smooth section of a painting and then go over with some sharp brushes. but i found building up lots of details bit by bit kept the painting in check without it looking too contrasted. the jerkin she's wearing was surprisingly easy to paint, her left sleeve however was a nightmare. i used a excellent photo reference from the show but as she was lit for television there wasn't much drama so i punched up the shadows. i also added more darkness to her face as i thought it reflected the character more.

Pacific rim

Gypsy danger is a real challenge to pose as the proportions and dimensions are absolutely insane.
I wanted to get across the lumbering Mexican wrestling themes in the film.

sleepy hollow

A Sleepy Hollow speed paint.
I’m currently waiting on a client from Hong Kong, and the work is all pretty neat and cute so I decided to paint something spooky while I can.
The Headless Horseman Is one of the more striking characters of American fiction. there are loads of European legends of a ghostly or demonic hunt. even ones where the rider is headless. but there’s something just so arresting about the lone headless man about to run you down.

I usually want to change or tweak characters costumes when i do fanart of them. but star lord’s design is just so badass he dosn’t need it.

the white orc

this dude had a lot of design choices i really liked; the almond eyes, the flattened nose and the more vampire king look to him was really cool. That and i find facial scarification fascinating. I did this painting from memory so he’s not 100% accurate to what he looked like in the film. but nevertheless this was fun to paint.

So long time no posting. man this painting took far too long to make. But I figured if I was going to do some fanart other than batman I might as well go head first. I like the idea that even though the avengers are this bad ass team when they have to team up its for something incredibly bad and impossible. so seeing them only just about get through and almost die in the process is something i find interesting instead of  just blazing through without a scratch. just the more battle worn look.
I'm still figuring out my process to define myself as a painter. i'm still not completely satisfied with this one but i think I'm getting there.
