some Arya Stark fanart for ya.
i wanted to be a bit bolder and rougher with my painting style. something a lot of digital artists do is only use soft edge brushes and the result is a bloby mess. it takes some guts to take a nice smooth section of a painting and then go over with some sharp brushes. but i found building up lots of details bit by bit kept the painting in check without it looking too contrasted. the jerkin she's wearing was surprisingly easy to paint, her left sleeve however was a nightmare. i used a excellent photo reference from the show but as she was lit for television there wasn't much drama so i punched up the shadows. i also added more darkness to her face as i thought it reflected the character more.

I'm trying to get better at painting and develpoing a flow of work that works for me. so far using soft brushes to block out colour and tone, then working on top of them with harder and harder edge brushes seems to be working ok. I was doing it the other way round but i didnt like the results as they felt blobby and undefined.

Just a speed paint while waiting around.
superman is one my least favorite of all the superheros, but the design choices for the man of steel film just look so neat. the aggressive bone like armour for zod reminds me of tsutomu nihei’s work.

sleepy hollow

I’m currently waiting on a client from Hong Kong, and the work is all pretty neat and cute so I decided to paint something spooky while I can.
The Headless Horseman Is one of the more striking characters of American fiction. there are loads of European legends of a ghostly or demonic hunt. even ones where the rider is headless. but there’s something just so arresting about the lone headless man about to run you down.

You can blame my friend Catherine for all these ship based paintings. I think the top one turned out better as i'm trying to do more painting with hard surface objects. but i still got to ad some of my favorite things such as fire and mountains.

So me and a friend wrote and are D.M'ing a comedy dungeon. now it may be a comedy but its a dark comedy. so lots of discussing and nasty creatures within. some are creatures you can find in the bestiery but I wanted to do my own spin on them.  I will update more designs after the guys have encountered them.
