used photo booth to get some strange expressions. then i got bored with my mug and went to spy on my brother.

Mer

i always loved those painting in the haunted mansion at disenyland that would slowly reveal that they werent just gothic American paintings but horror illustrations filled with nasty things.
so i tried to get something like that in this pic, i may have not been too subtle with her translucence.

Something I read about one of my favorite writers. almost all of my heroes are drunkards, what are you gonna do about it? Look up Hark a Vagrant. do it!

Saturday, 21 August 2010

this looked kinda fun so i thought i'd post it up. there are waaay too many influences for me to fit on this meme without making it about seven meters long. I wanted to put artists up there instead of being a dick and exclusively putting up photographs of nature and people with lots of lens flair.

wodland walk

This picture was taken from a far better artist than me but i couldn't be bothered to scan some drawings in because I'm nackerd from cycling. but wylst sycling i sow some awesome forests so i needed to get the inspiration down. hence this picture.
the original can be found here http://mythwood.blogspot.com/
you may see that i replaced the unicorn with one of my shapeless monsters. cos unicorns are evil.

on summer night

I'm guessing you're all a little tired of my half baked speed paints. so her's some werewolves instead.
do you know whats awesome? Ice caves. ice caves are awsome

silence after the war

I know its a little more of my old style. but an insult against this painting is an insult on the motherland.

arrrg the sea be a crewel mistriss

I kind of like the children s story book look to this one. but then that's a poor excuse for a bad painting.

Instead of doing the work I should be doing I'm still faffing about doing stuff like this.
Giving serous consideration into doing background painting for a living.

Someting nice for a change

I watched that stupid Pascal campion video and now i'm all "yay for nice things"
Although i have been waiting to use the blue shadow's technique from red dead redemption for a while now.

Gonna learn ya

Man i love Blur studio's
just some lovely expressions.
I love the Flisher style of the expressions. the character in the comic book doesn't show his teeth allot. But they look just awesome.

the over acting's also done with more minimalist motions
but to be honest, you watch something you're looking for stuff like this.
I mean c,mon.

A battle of wills.

http://i32.tinypic.com/bhixl1.jpg

i know it takes time and patience. but i still really want to make a stop motion film for next year.
Anyone want to help me out?

A waste of time and probably bad for you

Amongst games and animation lark there is a hell of a lot of kack. there are games whose soul perpose is to show off the physics made for some new guns created by some lifeless nerds and then sold to Lucasarts.
but then thers stuff like this. Limbo by Playdead.

I love the way the boy falls and bumps into the environment. the oppressive setting and imaginative obstacles. and did you check out that spider? did you?

Comming This Summer

What i have so far in my Final major project. I was thinking of makeing a cheezy trailer for my showreal. but that will have to wait. so for now hears some screen grabs of the exported scenes.

giants alive!

wanted to put more red tones in this one to convey the pissed off emotion of the giant without giving him a facial expression. I may give him a kind of echoy grinding sound to give him a voice but don't expect lines. "BLAAAARG!!!!"

the mountain king

Character for my fmp. Decided to go for a more samurai jack approach so I'm doin a fair share of the art using the pen tool in photo shop. Interesting to see how this all terns out.

Pastoral Landskapes

My dad will be so pleased.
Background art for my final major project. Used just quink ink for this one
That stuffs amazing. In this painting I was trying to get a sweeping and
mysterious quality to the landscape.

of wolves and men

I was determined not to do the usual left to right comic book transformation. I imagine that having you're bones and muscles shift and change would cause them to heat up considerably and be a rather painful process. So in this drawing I was trying to convey that feeling of animal rage and pain.

I usually don't use digital backgrounds but at the time of makeing this drawing I was unsure as to where the wolf was going to be. Once I decided it was going to be in the snow the rest just sort of fell together. Trying to get the feeling of the wolf towering over you in this piece.

On Werewolves and Lycanthropes

Going for a "last known photo" look in this picture. I like how the light's turned out trying to get the look of a flash camera being used the same time as the gunshot.

Much more experimental in this one. I wanted the wolves to convey a feeling of speed and animal ferocity. Using a brush instead of pen was a big help in this.

Working with shadow and line in this one. Also trying to figure out the proportions I have in mind for them.

My favorite of the wolf pictures Ive done so far. Geting that mix of wolf and simian in the body of the wolf was interesting. Also not making him looking like a skinny bear was a challenge. But he makes a nice shadow.

Laughable

more animal work. I need to do more work on my color theory, but its comin along from not using color at all.

Friday, 12 March 2010

so mysterious and sultry

What was i thinking. Nobody would let me near children's book covers. But that's not gonna stop me from trying.

Thursday, 11 March 2010

I see you

a warm up sketch before iNknuckle down to some hard core animation time.

Tuesday, 9 February 2010

Oh the humanity

some work for dungeons and dragons.
referenced cutlers last stand for this one and other such paintings. i don't know why
but it seems that paintings of last stands have a real impact in western and eastern culture.

well mine has zombies. so shaddap.

The woods are lovely dark and deep

when i was shown this animation i was blown away.
you can show me all the most competent and realistic 3D animation with creatures and robots
and explosions. but all will pale before the might of a frenchman with a watercolor set.

the main thing that adds to the charm of this short film is its simplicity. this has been done by one man useing programs you can easally get for free if you're clever enough.

the colors are beautiful, the sound and the shots and pacing are just right.

if i had it my way, this is how i would re shoo the moomins. all dark and harsh and mysterious.
I highly recommend you watch in full view on the highest setting.

i'm ready to face my new animaion project now.

Cheers James.

More than most can handle.

BOOM. and my illustrator street cred goes out the door!

I'm gonna have to draw so many fractal lions to get it back.
